Direct answer
16:9 aspect ratio
16:9 equals 1.778:1. It is the widescreen proportion behind HD, Full HD, QHD, and 4K UHD frames. This page is about that proportion and its common frame sizes. The single resolution 1920 × 1080 has its own page.
Quick reference
| 1280 × 720 | HD frame |
|---|---|
| 1920 × 1080 | Full HD frame |
| 2560 × 1440 | QHD frame |
| 3840 × 2160 | 4K UHD frame |

Frame sizes that share 16:9
Any of these widths, locked to 16:9, produces the matching height: 1280 gives 720, 1920 gives 1080, 2560 gives 1440, and 3840 gives 2160. They are the same shape at different pixel counts. Choosing among them is a sharpness and file-size decision. Calling all of them “16:9” is the proportion decision, and it is the one this page answers.
To go the other way, lock 16:9 and type the height. A 1080-tall frame is 1920 wide. A 720-tall frame is 1280 wide. If you only needed that arithmetic for an arbitrary width, the resolution calculator does the same lock without the frame-size notes.
How 16:9 differs from the pages next to it
1920 × 1080 is one 16:9 frame, the Full HD one, including its pixel count and landscape orientation. It does not list the other frame sizes. 4:3 is a shorter widescreen used by older displays and many cameras. 1:1 has equal sides. None of those should be substituted when the request is a 16:9 frame.
Vertical delivery is not a 16:9 crop with the axes renamed in prose. Swap the sides and the proportion becomes 9:16. A 1920 × 1080 image turned into a vertical full-screen frame has to be cropped or fit with margins. The 9:16 page covers that proportion.
Where 16:9 shows up
Use it for YouTube landscape video, many thumbnails, presentation canvases, and desktop wallpapers that match a 16:9 panel. In this tool the YouTube preset is 1920 × 1080 and the X preset is 1200 × 675. Both are 16:9. They are not the same file. X is a smaller working image size, not a second aspect ratio.
Examples

The usual landscape master. Open the 1920 × 1080 page if that exact grid is the question.
A 4:3 photo you need in 16:9
The ratio change is a crop or a fit. The image tool shows which, once you set a focus point.
Frequently asked questions
What are common 16:9 frame sizes?
1280 × 720, 1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440, and 3840 × 2160 are the usual HD through 4K sizes. Any other pair with the same proportion is also 16:9.
Is 1920 × 1080 the only 16:9 size?
No. It is one resolution. This page is the ratio. The 1920 × 1080 page is that resolution.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Image decoding, reframing, and export happen locally in your browser. The site does not receive your image file.
Which image formats can I use?
