Screen aspect ratio calculator

Type a screen’s pixel width and height. The ratio comes from those pixels. Inches, refresh rate, and HDR do not change it.

Name the shape of a display

This page answers a display question: given a monitor, laptop, television, or phone resolution, what is the aspect ratio? It uses the same simplification as the general calculator, and the examples below are screens rather than social crops. A 27-inch 1920 × 1080 monitor and a 65-inch 1920 × 1080 television are both 16:9.

Quick reference

1920 × 108016:9 — Full HD televisions and a large share of laptops
2560 × 144016:9 — QHD monitors, still 16:9
3840 × 216016:9 — 4K UHD, still 16:9
3440 × 144043:18 — A common ultrawide monitor
2560 × 108064:27 — A wider ultrawide, often marketed near 21:9
1920 × 12008:5 — A 16:10-class display; the exact reduced ratio is 8:5

Working presets and safe-zone guidance are checked against official platform documentation. Safe zones remain conservative guides because app UI varies.

Pixels decide the ratio

Screen size in inches is the diagonal of the glass. Two panels can share a diagonal and not share a ratio. Read the resolution from the display settings or the spec sheet, then enter those pixels here. 1920 × 1080, 2560 × 1440, and 3840 × 2160 are all 16:9. They differ in sharpness, not in shape.

1920 × 1200 reduces to 8:5. That proportion is what manufacturers call 16:10, because 16:10 and 8:5 are the same number. The calculator prints the smaller integers. 3440 × 1440 reduces to 43:18. 2560 × 1080 reduces to 64:27. Panels near that width are often marketed as 21:9, but 21:9 is not the exact reduced form of 2560 × 1080, so this tool does not relabel it.

How this differs from the general calculator

The aspect ratio calculator is for any rectangle: a photo, a layout, an embed. This page is for display resolutions, and its reference table is a short set of screens you can check without building a device database. Phone screens belong here only when you know the pixel resolution. A phone’s point size, or a CSS viewport, is a different measurement.

Examples

1920 × 1080

16:9. The usual Full HD television and a common laptop panel.

3440 × 1440

43:18. Enter it when a spec sheet says “ultrawide” and you need the exact ratio.

2560 × 1080

64:27. Use the exact label when you are matching wallpapers or capture size to the panel.

1920 × 1200

8:5, the reduced form of a 16:10-class laptop.

Frequently asked questions

Does a larger television have a different ratio?

Not if the pixel width and height stay the same. Diagonal inches do not change the aspect ratio.

Why is 1920 × 1200 shown as 8:5?

8:5 is the simplified form of 16:10. Both describe the same proportion. The calculator shows 8:5.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Image decoding, reframing, and export happen locally in your browser. The site does not receive your image file.

Which image formats can I use?

You can open JPG, PNG, and WebP images, then export JPG, PNG, or WebP files in supported browsers.
